How this app works

ChessReviewMaxx runs entirely in your browser. There is no account, no login, and no application server that stores your data. When you enter a Chess.com or Lichess username, your browser fetches that player's public games directly from the Chess.com or Lichess API. All analysis — running the Stockfish chess engine and building your report — happens locally on your device; your games are never uploaded to us.

Saved analyses

The "Save analysis" feature writes a JSON file to your own device. We never receive or store a copy. If you later load that file back into the app, it's read directly from your device into your browser.

Reports kept in your browser

So that a report is still there when you come back, the app also stores it in your browser's own database (IndexedDB) on the device you analysed it on. That copy holds the full analysis — the games, moves and evaluations — and, where your browser supports it, a reference to the file you saved it to so the app can update that file instead of making duplicates. None of this is sent anywhere: it lives on your device, it is readable only by this site in this browser, and deleting a report from the reports page (or clearing site data in your browser settings) removes it. The oldest reports are dropped automatically once the list grows past a set size.

Local storage

The app also keeps small amounts of data in your browser's local storage — training progress in a puzzle course, which accounts you have analysed and when they were last checked for new games, and cached profile-picture URLs. This never leaves your browser and you can clear it through your browser settings at any time.

Advertising

This site shows ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites, and — where applicable — to personalize ads. You can review or opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings, and read more about how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Third-party services this site talks to

• Chess.com API (public, read-only) — to fetch the games of the username you enter
• Lichess API (public, read-only) — same, when Lichess is selected
• Chess.com image CDN — to show the profile picture next to a Chess.com username you have analysed. Lichess accounts have no picture, so nothing is requested for them.
• Google AdSense — to serve ads, as described above

We don't run any analytics or tracking scripts beyond AdSense.

Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change too.
